Trac app
Using the Trac App
A walkthrough of the Trac app grouped by task — getting oriented, entering and automating your data, then analysing and configuring it.
Overview#
This section walks through the Trac app, grouped by what you are trying to do — from getting oriented, through entering and automating your data, to analysing and configuring it. The sidebar (ordered by these groups) is the authoritative map; the areas below link to each group’s overview.
Getting around
Overview# The screens you use to orient yourself and find your way around your portfolio: the Dashboard landing screen, the Feed of recent activity, the Navigator, Search, and Notifications — the inbox of things that need you.
Traci, the AI Assistant
Traci is the in-app AI assistant. It’s a chat you can open from anywhere in Trac to ask questions about your portfolio, log data by describing it in plain language, build and edit reports, reconcile statements, and hand off recurring work. Traci can read your live portfolio data and the built-in documentation, so you can ask things like “what’s my exposure to private equity?” or “log a $50,000 wire from the operating account” and get an answer or an action in return.
Your data
Overview# Getting information into and out of Trac, and the underlying model it is stored in: adding data by hand, importing and exporting files, activities, and the chart of accounts. It starts with Connections — linking a bank, brokerage or Google account so the data arrives on its own instead of being entered or imported. It also covers Files — the document vault where your statements, tax forms and agreements are filed and connected to the holdings, people and activities they belong to — and Data Operations, the admin screen that shows what is outstanding across the whole portfolio and where you work through it. From there, Reconciling an account walks the screen where you check one account against its statement, period by period.
Automation
Overview# Letting Trac do repetitive work for you: automation rules that react to your data, and custom commands that tailor how you instruct the app.
Analysis
Overview# Making sense of your data: statistics you can define and reuse, reports built from them, and the Explorer grid for browsing and slicing everything. It also covers Cash Planning — the 24-month view of where cash has been and where it’s heading, account by account — and Targets, the goals you set against those statistics and the On Track / At Risk / Pass / Miss status Trac tracks them with.
Configurations
Configurations is the hub where you tailor Trac to the way your portfolio works. It’s where you define your own building blocks — the attributes, metrics, holding sub-types, price sources, and financial-event activities that the rest of the app then offers you when you’re adding or editing data. Set something up once here, and it shows up everywhere it’s relevant: in dropdowns, in forms, and on your holdings. This guide explains how to reach Configurations, what each tab does, and how to create your own custom types on the tabs that don’t already have a dedicated guide.
