Using the Trac App

Getting around

Overview#

The screens you use to orient yourself and find your way around your portfolio: the Dashboard landing screen, the Feed of recent activity, the Navigator, Search, and Notifications — the inbox of things that need you.

  • Dashboard

The Dashboard is your home screen — the first thing you land on when you open Trac. It gives you a high-level picture of your whole portfolio: your total value, how it’s split between asset types, your cash, and your liabilities. You move between these pictures using the tabs across the top, and each tab shows a headline number, an optional graph, key statistics, and lists of the holdings behind the number.

  • Feed

The Feed is your portfolio’s activity stream — a single, chronological list of everything that’s been happening: activities, price updates, written updates, and metrics. It groups activity by date, keeps track of what you’ve already seen, and lets you filter and search so you can zero in on the activity that matters. You reach the Feed from the Feed tab (the scroll icon) in the main navigation bar. When there’s new activity you haven’t looked at, a small badge appears on that tab.

  • Navigator

The Navigator is a browsing tool for working through your portfolio by structure rather than by searching. It organizes your holdings into expandable folders so you can drill down — by owner, by tag, or by saved view — and open the exact holding, owner, or view you’re after. You reach the Navigator from the Navigator tab (the tree icon) in the main navigation bar. It’s the structured counterpart to Search, which is text-based discovery — use the Navigator when you want to explore the shape of your portfolio and Search when you already know what you’re looking for.

  • Search

Search is the fastest way to find a specific holding, owner, tag, or activity when you already know what you’re after. You reach it from the Search tab (the magnifying glass) in the main navigation bar. Search is the text-based counterpart to the Navigator: use the Navigator when you want to browse the structure of your portfolio, and Search when you have a name (or part of one) in mind. The full spreadsheet-style data grid behind your portfolio is the Explorer.

  • Notifications

Notifications are how Trac tells you something happened when you weren’t looking. A task gets assigned to you, a monitor you set up trips, an account stops updating, someone undoes a reconciliation you finished — each of those writes a notification, and each can also reach you by email or as a browser banner if you want it to. This page covers reading your notifications, clearing them, choosing what reaches you outside the app, connecting a browser for push, and setting up the one kind of notification you write yourself: a monitor.
