The Dashboard is your home screen — the first thing you land on when you open Trac. It gives you a high-level picture of your whole portfolio: your total value, how it’s split between asset types, your cash, and your liabilities. You move between these pictures using the tabs across the top, and each tab shows a headline number, an optional graph, key statistics, and lists of the holdings behind the number.
The Dashboard is built from the data you’ve already entered. See Adding Your Data for how that data gets in.
Find your way around the app#
Across the bottom of the app (on phones) is the main navigation bar with these tabs:
- Dashboard (house icon) — this screen.
- Search (magnifying glass) — find any holding, activity, or record. The full data grid behind it is the Explorer.
- Navigator (tree icon) — browse your portfolio by owner, tag, or saved view. See Navigator.
- Feed (scroll icon) — a running history of recent activity. A small badge on this tab tells you there are unread items. See Feed.
The Dashboard, Navigator, and Feed tabs are part of the everyday portfolio view; the Search tab opens the Explorer experience.
Switch between Dashboard views#
The Dashboard has four views, selected with the tabs near the top of the screen. It opens on Overview by default:
| Tab | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Overview | Your total portfolio value and the holdings behind it. |
| Allocation | How your portfolio is split across categories. |
| Cash | All your cash accounts in one place. |
| Liabilities | What you owe, plus any personal guarantees. |
Each view loads its own numbers, graph, and lists. Switching tabs refreshes the data for the view you move to — so if you want fresh numbers for the view you’re already on, switch to another tab and back.
To reload everything at once, reload the page in your browser.
Overview#
The Overview is your at-a-glance summary. At the top, a large number shows your total portfolio value, with a year-to-date ticker beside it telling you how much that value has moved this year.
Below the number you’ll find:
- A graph of your portfolio value over time. You can turn it on or off, and on the Overview you can overlay a net investment line to compare your value against what you’ve put in.
- Statistics relevant to your whole portfolio.
- Cards that group your holdings:
- Liquid Assets — assets you could readily turn into cash.
- Illiquid Assets — assets that are harder to sell quickly.
- Cash Accounts — your cash on hand.
- Liabilities — what you owe.
Each card shows a category total. Tap a card to expand it and see the individual holdings inside, and use the sort button while it’s open to order them by value or by name. Tapping a holding opens its detail page.
Allocation#
The Allocation view shows how your portfolio is divided up. The headline number is your total value, and below it a pie chart breaks that value down by category.
- Switch the chart between the pie chart and an allocation-over-time line graph from the graph settings.
- Your tag categories appear as nested tabs (for example “Category”, “Location”), each with a table breaking your value down within that category.
This view helps you see your diversification — how much of your portfolio sits in each type of holding, location, or whatever categories your tags describe.
Cash#
The Cash view focuses on your cash accounts. The headline number is your total cash, with its year-to-date change, and an optional graph of cash over time.
Below that is a searchable list of every cash account:
- Search the list to find a specific account.
- Sort the accounts by value or by name.
- Tap an account to open its detail page.
A closed account whose balance has settled to zero (including sub-cent rounding dust that would otherwise show as “$0.00”) is dropped from this list so it doesn’t clutter your cash view. Elsewhere in the app, a closed holding at that near-zero balance shows the label CLOSED in place of a dollar value.
Liabilities#
The Liabilities view focuses on what you owe. The headline number is your total liabilities, with its year-to-date change and an optional graph.
Below that are two cards:
- Liabilities — every liability you’re tracking.
- Guarantees — assets where you’ve recorded a personal guarantee. These cards show the guarantee amount rather than the asset’s own value.
As on the Overview, you can expand each card to see the items inside, sort them, and tap an item to open its detail page.
Customize the graphs#
Most views have a graph you can tailor:
- Show or hide the graph for the current view.
- Show or hide the Y-axis labels on line graphs.
- On Overview, overlay the net investment line; on Allocation, switch to the allocation-over-time line graph.
Your graph choices are remembered for each view separately and stay the way you left them the next time you open Trac, so each view keeps its own look.
